Who's Pogo hauling? And why? - Pogonomyrmex californicus - male - female

Who's Pogo hauling? And why? - Pogonomyrmex californicus - Male Female
Riley Wilderness Park, Coto de Caza, Orange County, California, USA
June 25, 2009
Are the two female red workers carrying a winged male? That's my best guess. They seemed to be handling it fairly carefully, and it just went along for the ride.

Ron Yes they are hauling a ma
Ron Yes they are hauling a male. It is not unusual for them to drag the sexuals back into the the nest for whatever reason. Although handling him gently now they day will come when he is a drain on resources and he will be executed if still around. Nice photos.

Thanks, Gordon
For the explanation and your kind words.

I don't know

I lucked into these. My grandson had been using the camera to shoot ants. That called my attention to them, plus he was pre-focused.
