Northern Crescent - Phyciodes cocyta - Male
French Fort Cove, Miramichi, Northumberland County, New Brunswick, Canada
June 27, 2005
In clearing of mixed woods. The flight season (mid-June to mid-July), orange antennal knobs, and open orange areas on the hindwing help to separate this species from the similar Pearl Crescent. According to the data map at Butterflies of Canada, the Pearl Crescent doesn't occur in New Brunswick. More info in Guide.
