Soldier Beetle - Trypherus latipennis
It's a beetle, a funky one with the short elytra.

I wondered. We've seen every imaginable kind of soldier beetle out lately, must be their time of year. Looks like that before ours, they were only posted from two states. Odd elytra, have only seen that on glowworm beetles and rove beetles.
