Centris (Paracentris) sensu lato - Centris hoffmanseggiae - male

Centris (Paracentris) sensu lato - Centris hoffmanseggiae - Male
Borrego Springs, San Diego County, California, USA
May 4, 2008
Size: BL up to 18 mm?
This large bee, which appears to be a Centris female, was visiting a large Mexican Palo Verde in full bloom that was swarming with many bees and wasps on Henderson Canyon Road in Borrego Springs. It has a white clypeus. Could this be the female Centris cockerelli?

subgenus Paracentris sensu lato

Centris (Paracentris) sp male
I appreciate your identifying this Centris to subgenus. I'll check into possibilities in California. There aren't all that many and we already have four species identified! Thank you so much, Dr. Ascher.

I believe this is C. hoffmannseggiae
