Big caterpillar - Hyles gallii

Big caterpillar - Hyles gallii
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
August 26, 2005
Size: big - about 3 inches long
I was most amazed by the horn thing on it..... my daughter thought it was a stinger!

What does it eat?
My daughters were outside yesterday and found two caterpillers just like this one (Hyles gallii). They would like to keep them until they are adult moths. Maybe even make them class projects/pets. I would just like to know how to take care of them and what they eat.
