Caterpillar - Anisota peigleri

Caterpillar - Anisota peigleri

Size: L= approx 1 1/2 inch
I found this Caterpillar by my door. It was not found near a plant, so I don't know what it eats. Any ideas on what this may be?

Moved from Anisota.

How about Orange-Striped Oakworm
In the guide here at Anisota senatoria/peigleri. Patrick may be able to tell. He has some comments on this image

Yes, Anisota senatoria/peigleri complex
I agree with John and Jane. Everything I wrote down from my sources, and sort of even understand (a little) is on guide pages for Anisota peigleri and genus Anisota.

I just got my first one of these here in Durham two days ago. Soon they'll be everywhere, looking for a place to pupate.

It's neat somebody else just posted a photo of the Anisota stigma caterpillar. They look so different from this one, but their adults look so similar!
