Large Beetle - Phyllophaga crenulata

Large Beetle - Phyllophaga crenulata
Springfield, Calhoun County, Michigan, USA
June 10, 2009
Size: 20mm
This big scarab came to the porch light. He plays dead very well as I noticed with another scarab beetle before. As soon as they think you are gone they move really quickly, though. Does this help them with predators?

With a maybe Phyllophaga in hand and looking through all the scarabs and seeing that Phyllophaga is the only fit for this large, hairy, reddish-brown beetle, I feel that I can safely place it there.
