I thought this was a maple gall mite but this does not look like a maple leaf!

I saw some too
I noticed the same galls and almost touched the plant until I realized what it was so I decided to keep far away from it. I am glad to find out what it is.

Mite galls
These are eriophyid mite galls, but I would need to know the plant species to go further. Do you have a photo that shows more of the leaf?

Poison ivy?
I just looked at the second photo, it looks like poison ivy (
Toxicodendron radicans
) to me, even the leaves in the background.

Poison ivy
That's what I was guessing from the first photo, and I'm convinced by the second one. Which means the mite is
Aculops rhois
. These are typical of the poison ivy mite galls I've seen--I don't think I've come across green ones like the ones you found, John.
