What plant?
It is important to know the plant. Gall makers tend to be rather specialized.
Did you think about slicing it open to see what is inside? I am about to do just that with some oak galls.
Also size would be helpful.

Elm cockscomb gall aphid
Fortunately, these are very distinctive galls. Definitely be sure to record plant species (or get pictures of leaves, flowers, etc. if you don't know) and size in the future though.
