Size: approximately 3/8"
This small wasp was photographed on a concrete boat ramp. It appeared to be drinking water. Any help with ID appreciated.

No, no, no.
Sorry, but I have little patience for seat-of-the-pants IDs. This is a female sphecid wasp in the genus Astata. They hunt stink bugs as provisions for their offspring (lucky larvae, eh?:-). This is probably A. unicolor, but I'd have to have the specimen to be sure. Males are all black with incredible, holoptic eyes (see other Astata images in the guide). Great images of this specimen.
