heres a big old fatty spinning up..egg hatched may 27, and coccoon is spun july 3 thats 5 weeks.
notice the valve on the coccon is pointing upwards,yet, some are pointing down, the valve apparantly blocks rain yet the moth can muscle its way out. now we wait till next may for the next generation.. Gods little miracles.

So each instar is only about a week long?
I've got 5 newly hatched caterpillars from a Ceanothus that spent a night on one of my philodendrons. Tranfered them to the host plant and they're munching away. I guess in a couple more days I can expect a molt.
