Carabus vinctus

Carabus vinctus
Snowhill Road north of Cabin Branch Creek, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
November 4, 2003
Size: 24 mm
This individual was found in a lighted breezeway on a cold (about 45 F) degree evening. It was apparently hunting chilled, immobilized insects in the breezeway. It was captured and chilled for photography, but that had little effect. It was quite feisty, and I had to restrain it gently for photography.
