Intertidal 'Rove Beetle-Like' Melyrid - Endeodes collaris

Intertidal 'Rove Beetle-Like' Melyrid - Endeodes collaris
Beach at Pescadero Marsh, near small town of Pescadero, San Mateo County, California, USA
July 1, 2009
Note (one of) the (undeployed) "eversible vesicle(s)": visible as a thin, whitish-red, band -- below the right elytron and continuing back along lateral edge of abdomen.

In this image, the front left tarsi weren't quite detailed/magnified enough for me to discern whether this is a male or female, using the criteria in the last paragraph on this page (which takes a while to load).
