Goldenrod leaf-roller gall-maker (goldenrod fauna) - Asphondylia solidaginis

Goldenrod leaf-roller gall-maker (goldenrod fauna) - Asphondylia solidaginis
Churchville Nature Center, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA
July 3, 2009
A bunch of goldenrod leaves rolled together. Many similar galls in the field, ranging from 3 to 7 mm. They hold a very complex fauna, the gall maker midge and an assortment of parasitoid wasps.
The gall maker is this midge Asphondylia solidaginis

These pupae are pressumably parasites of the midge

These adults emerged from the galls and may correspond to some of the pupae above
Torymidae
Eulophidae
Braconidae

Another parasitic wasp, Galeopsomyia
Eulophidae

There were also some larvae waiting for identification
