0314 - Morophagoides burkerella
Identified by Terry Harrison, Referee for micromoths at MPG, to whom I sent the photos. Terry reports:
"Scardiella approximatella is known only from eastern North America, and as you implied, it is too small to be the moth in question. Morophagoides burkerella is characterized as "the larger and commoner of the two Nearctic Morophagoides species" (wingspan, 19-28mm for M. burkerella, the known range of which is CA, UT, WA, BC Canada, plus--perhaps questionably--PA; versus 14-16mm for the other species, M. berkeleyella, which is known only from CA)."
Robinson, G. S. 1986. Fungus moths: a review of the Scardiinae (Lepidoptera: Tineidae). Bulletin of the British Museum of Natural History (Entomology) 52(2): 37-181.
Two specimen photos of this species are presented in the new
Moths of Western North America

Morophagoides burkerella
Thanks! Have seen this several times more & my original attempt at an ID just didn't seem right. Just got my copy of Moths of Western North America; it's going to be a great additional resource. Sorry about the rsvp, but I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate all your help.
