Another Hitchhiking Critter

Another Hitchhiking Critter
Alexandria, Fairfax County, Virginia, USA
June 25, 2009
Last night I submitted a photo of one of these, which I found when viewing a photo of a moth I had taken. I hadn't noticed it when shooting the moth.

I just found another when, again, viewing another photo of a different kind of moth. I can tell it's a similar kind of creature from the color and its long legs, but what is it?

moth parasite
This is a parasitic mite in the family Erythraeidae, possibly the genus Callidosoma, which includes specialist parasites of Lepidoptera.

Aha -
Something about it didn't look too friendly - I think the head just looks too dug in for it to be just hitching a ride. Thanks!
