Explanation of Names
Closely related to Callophrys; originally described and sometimes included as a subgenus in that genus.
Identification
In our species, hind wing tailed (C. herodotus & miserabilis) or not (C. goodsoni); ventral green with partial postmedian stripe on hind wing, without large partly reflective brown to maroon marginal patch (prominent in similar Chlorostrymon species).
Similar to green Callophrys, but with blue above.
Similar to Chlorostrymon, but our Cyanophrys lack a large brown/purple area near the outer margin of the ventral hind wing, have no distinct stripe crossing the ventral front wing, and tend to be more purplish above. Also, Chlorostrymon are unusual among Hairstreaks in having gray eyes with tiny reflective dark spots, while Cyanophrys have the usual black eyes.
