Silvanid Flat Bark Beetle - Silvanoprus scuticollis
Mobile (Dog River), Mobile County, Alabama, USA
July 5, 2009
Size: 2mm
Something for -v-

must be Silvanoprus scuticollis -- nice!!!
sorry guys, RL & Natter -- i was so damn busy today with heteropterans that failed to keep up with the flow and let you down...
will ask Dr Thomas to check, but feel quite confident about the ID

Ah ha!
I had looked at Silvanoprus too, but thought it looked more like a Silvanus. This is why I was just guessing :-P

Natter, you bright girl--
for goodness'sake, why didn't you take a look at the family page ???????

Haha I looked at the family images....
And somehow I completely missed that one. Hm....

Silvanid?
I wanted to guess before V got to it :-P I'm thinking Silvanus. I'll wait to see what he says though, I might be way off.

Possibly
Ahasverus rectus? Time of the year looks right, also.

Look at the pronotum
The Ahasverus isn't spiked like your specimen. Might just be something that varies in that genus though.
