Ichneumon Wasp ? - Xorides stigmapterus - female

Ichneumon Wasp ? - Xorides stigmapterus - Female
Bellevue, NE, Sarpy County, Nebraska, USA
August 30, 2005
Size: approximately 1.5"
This wasp was photographed in Fontenelle Forest. It was approximately 1.5 inches long not including its antennae. As we observed the wasp it appeared to be using its antennae on the surface of the tree to decide where to drill. It began to insert its ovipositor, using what appeared to be a protective sheath over the ovipositor to help drill down into the wood. See companion photos.

Any help with ID of this wasp will be appreciated.

Thanks,
