This animal appears to have wings too dark for similis. And a photo of this species would be an extraordinary event. Likely not that but other views of Ceraturgus from this collection area would be interesting.

I have examined the parts
that are visible in the photo, and they seem to correspond to those parts as described in Jeff Barnes's "Review of the genus Ceraturgus..." for Ceraturgus similis, a species which occurs in Massachusetts.

Ceraturgus
The genus Ceraturgus is notable for having an extra segment in the antennae, which makes it a better wasp mimic.
