Small Strymon but not Ministrymon - Strymon melinus
World Birding Center at Estero Llano Grande State Park, Hidalgo County, Texas, USA
July 8, 2009
I had just dropped John off and was about to drive away when I spotted this critter in a Turk's-cap (Malvaviscus drummondii) at the edge of the parking lot, a few feet from my car's driver's-side window. This butterfly was TINY, to the point that I initially misidentified it as a Gray Ministreak and John agreed, it was much closer to that size than to typical Gray Hairstreak dimensions. Must have been seriously malnourished as a caterpillar!
