Jumping Spider - Phidippus clarus - male

Jumping Spider - Phidippus clarus - Male
Ackworth, Warren County, Iowa, USA
July 9, 2009
Size: ~15 mm body
On stem and leaves on cup-plant (Silphium perfoliatum) in grassy old field. This shy spider evaded my camera several times by darting around corners of the square stem of this plant and hiding on the far side. When I feinted to the right with a probe, it finally moved to the left and emerged into view for photography. It quickly perceived my camera and assumed a defensive posture, so all I have to show are basically face views.
