common names can be tricky
The best is to refer to insects by their latin names first, and then a common name. The problem is that many have several common names, sometimes different depending on where you live in the country. One common name isn't more correct than another, the thing to really depend on is the latin name. I'm glad I didn't try to answer the ID on your beetle. I would have been way off track, even with the latin name :)
