♀ Prionus pocularis -- enough detail to be sure; good job
Moved from Prionus.

Maybe
something in the genus Prionus. More info here.

Thanks! Bug Guide has two pages which might explain??
http://bugguide.net/node/view/18548/
say that Prionus californicus is restricted to West Coast, but certainly looks like the insect I submitted.

Might "Prionus imbricornis" be it??

Genus Prionus
Species imbricornis (Tile-horned Prionus)
Say, Central and eastern United States, southern Canada.
Habitat Deciduous forests and adjacent areas
Season April to November (Northeast). May-July (North Carolina)

I don't know, maybe another species of Prionus.
According to the BugGuide page, P. imbricornis has 16-18 antennal segments, and your beetle seems to have less than that. I don't know eastern bugs that well--maybe someone who does will have more to say.
