Southern Dog Day Cicada - Neotibicen davisi - male

Southern Dog Day Cicada - Neotibicen davisi - Male
Parkwood, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
August 31, 2005
Size: 27 mm
Found on a road in a wooded suburban neighborhood. Captured and posed. Body length was 27 mm, head-to-wingtips, 40 mm, forewing length about 31 mm. Timbals (paired resonating structures at base of abdomen, on underside) indicate this is a male, I believe.

This reminds me of another cicada found dead in virtually the same location exactly two years earlier:

See comments under photograph of ventral side.
