rad robber fly
Beautiful shot! A few years ago a robber fly (not nearly as colorful as this one!) landed on the top of my mower and stayed there while I finished mowing the lawn. Quite curious! I've always wondered what the attraction of the mower was- vibration? Air? A lazy way to hunt?!

Nice one Kevin
I think I saw this one, but never got a shot.

Laphria
I'd look in the Laphria genus galleries.

Nice pics.

good call, Andy
Those look like a LOT better group. There are two species that look *very* good, but the data show they're all Eastern. Think I'm going to wait for one of the fly experts to help on this one.

good shot
I sure must have not been in the right places that weekend but sure have learned a lot since i got home...thanks to all. Here is a Bee-like Robber fly that I caught on my arvavida bush today. I guess patience is the thing..Later in the evening I noticed it buzzing around real fast like a fly it is out by the deck...drove the cat crazy. Again, can't thank everyone enough!
