We saw this shiny bee in Orcutt's Aster (Xylorhiza orcuttii) in the Visitors Center. Is this a Dianthidium? Any help will be greatly appreciated?

probably not Calliopsis
I now think this is a Perdita (Pygoperdita) male, most like P. malacothricis. The color pattern matches that species and not any Calliopsis I know of.
I was confused because the thoracic appears black, but some Perdita such as malacothricis also have a dark integument and this can appear black. Also the marginal cell is unusually long for Perdita; this is a character found in subgenus Pygoperdita.
Sorry about the confusion.

Perdita (Pygoperdita) male
Thanks for the identification of Perdita (Pygoperdita) male. Very interesting information that one subgenus of Perdita have a longer marginal cell! Your help is so much appreciated.

Calliopsis (Nomadopsis sensu lato)
I never even thought about a Calliopsis! But of course it has two cells and integumental bands. Thanks so much for this ID, Dr. Ascher.
