my guess either Tabanus or a Chrysopsinae
Do you have the rest of it, assuming you didn't photo it in 1969. Any whole body images? I'm not an expert. Somebody may know just the eyes.

while hiking i got bite on my ankle, just killed this thing and than noticed the eyes. The rest (of the body) is only memory
