Lucanidae (?) ID - Lucanus capreolus

Size: 1 1/4" or so
Saw this crawling in my garden today - in person, the femurs had a metallic coppery appearance that doesn't quite show in the picture. It stood up and seemed to take on a defensive posture. I'll see if I can figure out how to add that picture, too.
