Please don't frass until we've completed the survey for the 2009 BugGuide Gathering. If someone from the gathering has a better picture of this same species, I will be happy to frass.

I *think* these are Western Yellow Jackets. Sorry about the crummy picture. I got so excited while at the Gathering, at times I forgot a *very* basic principle: take LOTS of pictures of anything. Especially areas you may not return to. *sigh*

Right - among other differences
Actually, both species somehow mimick each other and look very similar at a first glance, despite not being close relatives.
