Moth 'Playing' Dead - Euphyia intermediata

Moth 'Playing' Dead - Euphyia intermediata
47.63055N 52.68740W (WGS84), Logy Bay, Northeast Avalon, Newfoundland/Labrador, Canada
July 16, 2009
Size: 20 mm wing span in photo
I found this moth inside our house, upsidedown on the carpet. I thought it was dead but photographed it anyway. After taking the first photo, I reached down to move it and it flew. I then took the dorsal view photo and put it outside to fly away. Besides an ID, any idea why this moth would have been lying on its back if it was able to fly?
