Sawfly? - Cephus cinctus

Sawfly? - Cephus cinctus
Colorado Springs, El Paso County, Colorado, USA
July 16, 2009
Size: ~8-9mm
Before I got in close to this insect, I thought it was a small syrphid, but it obviously has 2 sets of wings and long antennae. It looks similar to some sawflies in my field guide, but I'm not sure how small they are. I'm sure someone knows what it is. It also posed really well, since it was dead. :) Slightly different view that shows the tip of the abdomen.

Moved from Stem Sawflies.
Quite a find! It was IDed to species and it turns out that it is an important pest of wheat. I just finished creating a guide page for it. If it is such a common pest of wheat it should be easy to get more images but so far nobody has done so. Good for you!

I know they're not the best images, but I went ahead and moved them to family, since there are so few Cephidae images and there were none previously from Colorado.
