Beefly. - Heterostylum robustum - male

Beefly. - Heterostylum robustum - Male
Manteca , California, San Joquin County, California, USA
July 11, 2009
Size: a good 1/2 "
I love this insect as it is so pretty and graceful in the way it hovers over the Lantana flowers like a Hummingbird going all the way around the flowers precisely dipping in each little flower of the flower-head cluster . When it flies it makes a nice buzzzzz sound as it zips around . I know that I have entered this kind before , but this one is so furry and fresh . Thanks for any comments sincerely Beth Oh, I think it is a male because the eyes are close together ... is that correct ?
