I believe this is in Syrphidae from the big dip down in the Rs (R 4+5 is it?), but would love some help....

I think the spurious vein is tough to see in the photo; easier on the left wing.

 
Good. That's one hurdle behind you.
There aren't many fuzzy syrphids, so that should also help a bit. So should the fact that the wings have markings.

Three areas to explore:

Eristalis - there are loads of these and shape looks right

Narcissus bulb fly - a hairy one

Bee minics - do a search to turn some up
