Bagworm Moth? - Cryptothelea
Moccasin Lake, Winston, Douglas County, Georgia, USA
July 18, 2009
Size: 8mm measured length
Attracted to UV light. Measurement of 8mm refers to the length from nose to wingtip at rest with wings folded tent-like over body (accordingly Hodges #4701 - Fulgoraecia exigua, holds it's wings out to the side when at rest). I believe this is in fact one of the Bagworm moths but I have no idea which species this might be and will let the experts decide if possible. Note it has light colored legs (not black) and a slight bronze tint overall.
