Identification

Identified by the combination (quoted from Manual of Nearctic Diptera(2)):

only one frontal bristle arising below upper margin of pedicel

pedicel with one or two exceptionally long slender setae which are more than half as long as arista

arista pubescent or plumose

subvibrissal ridge with five or more slender bristles usually continuous with bristles of subcranial margin

Also, male with upper frontal bristles proclinate.

Food

Parasitoids of various Holometabola, especially Scarabaeidae and Cerambycidae.

Life Cycle

Typically eggs are deposited on the ground and the first instar digs in search of beetle grubs/larvae to parasitize.
