UID Black and White Butterfly (or Moth??) -
Rheumaptera
summit of Lolo Pass, Idaho County, Idaho, USA
July 5, 2009
Size: 1" or less
Not even sure if this is a butterfly or a moth. It was actively flying, mostly below 6 feet, at mid-day, along the edge of a dirt road in the forest.

I like them--
They are native species and I generally do not consider native species pests. Usually whatever they feed on has evolved along with them and they manage to get along. Besides thay are attractive and variable and probably need to be studied more. What more can you ask of an insect?
