Very large Apiomeris? - Apiomerus spissipes

Very large Apiomeris? - Apiomerus spissipes
Grassland west of Chiricahuas, Cochise County, Arizona, USA
July 10, 2009
Size: ca 20mm

Moved
Moved from Apiomerus.

Specimen examined. Apiomerus spissipes, adult male. The pygidial spine fits the species and rules out both A. cazieri and A. flaviventris. The large size rules out A. cazieri also. Color pattern deviates a little from "typical" specimens but the black pronotal band is a variable character.

IMO
this is just a large female of Apiomerus spissipes. They are known to reach around 17-18 mm.

Yes.
Correct genus. Again, not a species I'm familiar with. Me jealous:-(
