Androlyperus maculatus male - Androlyperus maculatus - Male
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, San Diego County, California, USA
May 4, 2009
Size: BL about 8 mm
This view shows one of the distinguishing characteristics of this genus. The male has an odd modification at the posterolateral corners of the elytra, which is at least indicated in this photo. In the revision of this genus Androlyperus by Shawn Clark, (Insecta Mundi, Vol. 13, 1999, pp. 217-227, available online, but you will have to google for the address), is a beautiful full page habitus drawing of a closely related species that shows this modification in beautiful detail.

Thanks, Harsi
I had a lot of trouble downloading, since I'm still on dial-up modem. I didn't know which address finally worked for me.
