Presume this is a fly - any help on ID would be appreciated. Thanks.

This is a female S. neglecta from the conspicuous white tip of ovipositor and its length (greater than rest of the abdomen and thorax...see description on pg. 12 of Aldrich).

It is a fly, a hover fly in the family Syrphidae to be more precise. As for genus, I can't help...
