Tibicen lyricen var. engelhardti
This cicada is commonly known as the "Dark Lyric Cicada".
Most specimens of this species from Appalachia, the Piedmont Plateau of the East, the Cumberland Plateau of the West and along the Fall-line Hills belong to this type or variations approaching it.
