Exact same thing happened to me when I collected eggs from a field plot... Although we had the little wasps inside a building with a colony of Podi*sus mac*uliventris... we froze these wasps pretty quickly, haha.

i've found eggs that look like this on my squash plants -- are they beneficial and should they be left in place to hatch more wasps that will parasitize more squash bug eggs?

I think it depends on what sp
I think it depends on what species. Some Stink Bugs will eat other insects and some will damage plants. I think if you don't know what kind they are, it would probably be best to move them away from the vegetable garden.

The ones in this picture
Look like they are most likely eggs from a phytophagous stink bug, one of the harmful ones.
