Size: 5.4 mm
Tetrops praeusta (Linnaeus, 1758). Yanega(1) reports on this European species as having been "collected at scattered localities in the NE and may now be established in NA". This specimen was collected by sweeping trail-side vegetation. The Guelph collection has at least three Ontario specimens that were retrieved from pan traps. fallen thru the cracks
oddly, ON record is not in the latest Canada checklist(1)

a familiar [flat] face... :-]
very common in Europe indeed -- and another [nice? sad?] addition to our long list of foreign invaders... Thanks, Stephen!

Moved from Tetraopini.

An intriguing find...
I was certainly surprised when I discovered the identity of this beetle!

ON provincial record yet unpublished?
a 2010 paper(1) still lists QC only

Maybe not
Ontario specimens from Guelph (2002, 2009) and Milton (2001) were not survey material. The species might be widespread across southern Ontario.

thanks
i sent a FYI note to Dr Grebennikov
