Red and black wasp -
Scolia nobilitata
-
Boca Grande, Lee County, Florida, USA
July 16, 2009
Size: 10-12mm roughly
I saw several examples of this wasp. If it would be helpful, I do have other angles of other specimens but this seemed to be the best overall shot.

Don't hesitate to post multiple shots, Tim.
Particularly if they're anywhere near this nice. A view from above is always good for wasps. (Flies, too. Heck, just about anything.)

Thanks Ron
All the other shots of this specimen are pretty much the same angle. My other shots of other specimens were pretty crappy. I do try for multiple angles but this fellow (or lady) was hanging out on the edge of a water retention area. Hopefully this will be enough for a wasp expert to go on.
