Hesperapis sp - Hesperapis

Hesperapis sp - Hesperapis
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, San Diego County, California, USA
February 24, 2003
Size: BL about 6.5-7 mm
We saw this small bee sleeping on a Mentzalia involucrata petal along Henderson Canyon Road where the sandy low desert meets the rocky slope. The bee was actually vertical, but I rotated the image to see the face better. The bee woke up and flew off and this is the only image I have. Is there enough detail here to determine genus? I'll be most grateful for any help.

Sorry--I re-read Dr. Ascher's comment and realized this was an ID to subgenus, not species.

Hesperapis
I was hoping it was an Hesperapis but could not tell from this image. Thank you so much, Dr. Ascher, for this identification.
