All the Apions look so similar - how can you tell? I still have this weevil in case you'd like me to try for any other pictures before I let it go.

 
in fact,
they are quite diverse and mostly IDable from good pictures -- it's only a matter of practice; i used to have a collection of some 100+ apionine spp. back in the old country, and still can ID many of the Eastern European spp. from images -- esp. given rich online sources available nowadays. Apion (in the old sense, what is now Apionini) were my first love as a teenage beetle enthusiast.

but...
...keeping [properly labeled] specimens of all sorts of small & obscure stuff to show to the specialists would be a good idea -- and you have great institutions in your area (NMNH will meet all of your needs)
