14-spotted lady beetle pupa - Day 9 (b) - Propylea quatuordecimpunctata

14-spotted lady beetle pupa - Day 9 (b) - Propylea quatuordecimpunctata
Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, USA
July 6, 2009
Size: 4 mm
The head is to the right.

In this lateral view, the area where the wing covers will develop is visible as a smooth, translucent gray "bubble" between the segmented abdomen and domed thorax.

The pupal stage lasted 5 days (Day 8 to Day 13). I did not photograph it daily, because it did not visibly change.
