Carabid 4a - Cymindis cribricollis

Carabid 4a - Cymindis cribricollis
Nosehill Park, Calgary, Alberta, Canada
July 13, 2009
Size: 9 mm
From pitfall trap; has marked pubescence/hairs on the head and pronotum

Moved
Moved from Cymindis.

Cymindis cribricollis (Dejean 1831)
Keyed from Lindroth; species is characterized by broadly depressed sides of the pronotum and that the 1st antennal segment is longer than the 3rd.

Excellent!
Tim, with a good scope and Lindroth at your side you are fast becoming at BugGuide the carabidologist representative for the northwestern fauna. Now if we could only get someone to take on the mysterious southwestern carabids.

Thanks [blushes]
I'm still a relative newbie when it comes to carabid identification.. there's lots to learn..definitely more challenging than the water beetles.

Challenging yes.
After weevils and rove beetles, ground beetles are the third most speciose beetle family of which genus Bembidion stands out with 30 pages (225 couplets) in Lindroth devoted to a key that is reliably applicable to just the species in the northern half of North America!

Kudos
also for contributing new species page to BugGuide.

Thanks..will be safe at genus level for now. Probably either C. cribicollis or C. planipennis based on descriptions and images at the U of A. Entomology collection but will wait till I get Lindroth's book to confirm.

Lindroth book.
Tim, I mailed you a pdf copy of the book well over a week ago. Did you get it? Also this to V. Belov: E-mails I sent to you in past week regarding Mike Quinn's posting of Rhadine are bouncing back to me (twice). Is there a change in your e-mail address?

Yes, Cymindis is a good place to start. Did you pass it through the key to North American Carabid Tribes that I had sent you?

Lindroth
I have yet to receive it but I anticipate that it should be in the mail sometime this week. Will let you know when I get it.

Lindroth
good idea; i'll be waiting for a name

crossed mail
V, I wanted to make sure you saw my edit above in case you may have missed it?
