Eggs On My Door - Spilosoma congrua

Eggs On My Door - Spilosoma congrua
Alexandria, Fairfax County, Virginia, USA
July 28, 2009
Size: < 1mm each
I pulled back my curtain this morning to find these deposited on my glass door. New mystery! I will be photographing every change I notice in them. The whole bunch is 1.3 cm across at its widest, and there are 87 eggs.

Someone guessed they could be from a moth, and this one was on my door last night, then above it this morning - could they be from it?

Wow!
Great series! So, I guess I was wrong to assume tiger moth eggs found next to a tiger moth belonged to that tiger moth!

Thanks!
I assumed the same - she didn't have a very good alibi!

I was going to suggest...
tiger moth eggs before I saw the image you linked to. So I think it's pretty likely that you've correctly connected the eggs to that moth.

Thank you!
I'll keep an eye out and hope I see what hatches. =)

We don't know the answer,
no images for any of the Cycnia eggs in the guide. But if so, you better be prepared with Dogbane or Milkweed leaves for the youngsters. Start scouting now for a source for the leaves! We look forward to future images - nice find!

Thanks for telling me
the food sources - I was wondering, and thinking her an awfully cruel mom to place them in such an unwelcoming location! Will Asclepias tuberosa (Butterflyweed) work? I'll be keeping an eye on these, and hope to see what comes out. =)
