Tylopelta gibbera

There is some doubt about whether there is only one species in North America, or two; but in either case, yours is the first record of this genus from any state between Texas and Florida!

Note the very broad front legs, which are similar to those of Campylenchia (Membracini).

If you think that this is wonderful, just wait til you see the nymph!

What a strange Membracid!

Wonder if the crest is not completely raised yet, but the color seems to indicate a fully adult hopper. There are some interesting similarities with

and

, but...

It will be interesting to see what Dr Hamilton has to say about this beauty. Hope you have more images!

Adult.

Oh, it's an adult, it has wings....Knowing host plant could go a long way to getting this ID'd as well.
